Ibiza travel guide – All you need to know
One of the most popular destinations in Europe, Ibiza is one of the Balearic islands, in Spain.
This beautiful island is becoming a summer hotspot, loved by many visitors from all over the world, known for its crazy nightlife, beautiful beaches, and many other activities that make your holidays unforgettable. And if you have heard that Ibiza is only for young people, note that you are never too old to go to Ibiza. Here is all you need to know before traveling to Ibiza.
Best time to visit Ibiza:
The best time to travel to Ibiza to fully enjoy the experience is from late May to early October. These months the weather is great in Spain, and in Ibiza the temperatures are hot, 30°C or higher, all the hotels, bars and restaurants are open and the parties are exploding. For those who like privacy, I would suggest visiting Ibiza from late May – early June and late September to early October. During these periods the island is less crowded, more possibilities to choose the hotel or restaurant you want, and more privacy on the beaches.
You can also travel to Ibiza from November to May but note that the temperatures are not suitable for the beach, major parts of bars, hotels, and restaurants are closed, but it’s still less expensive than the summer months.
How to get around in Ibiza:
The best way to get around in Ibiza is by renting a car. You all know that Ibiza is a pricey destination and also the rental car prices are very high. Another problem I noticed in Ibiza was that due to the large number of visitors, it was a bit difficult to find a good rental car. If you don’t book the car in advance, at best you will end up renting a luxury car, but most probably you will not find a rental car.
A more economical way, suitable especially for young couples, is renting a motorbike. I noticed this is the most common way the tourist moves around Ibiza. It’s an independent and more affordable way to get around the island. So, consider it.
An even more economical way is getting around by public transportation. There is a public transportation in Ibiza. There is a bus that departs from the airport to the city center (Old Town), and also some buses that depart from the main urban centers and resorts to the beaches. The reason I don’t recommend this way is that there is a limited number of buses with a bad schedule that don’t foresee a large number of visitors. So besides the fact you don’t go to the destination at the time you want, you most probably will end up waiting even more since the buses will be very very busy. Also, there is no connection between the city center to all the beaches around the island.
If you want to move from one beach to another there are also ferry rides or boat trips that make it possible.
Best area to stay in Ibiza:
It depends on what you are searching for. If you like exploring the whole island and visiting one beach in a day, the best area to stay is Old Town. Nearby you will find all the bars and hotels for dinner, also the port to take the ferry to reach the beaches you want. It’s also one of the most expensive areas in Ibiza. If you want a more calming holiday then you can book a resort near one of the best beaches: Playa d’en Bossa, Ses Salines, San Antonio, Cala Llonga, Santa Eulària des Riu, Es Caná, Portinatx, and Cala Talamanca.
Best beaches to visit in Ibiza:
Cala Comte – The turquoise waters and soft white sand make this beach one of the most photogenic beaches in Ibiza.
Playa d’en Bossa – Known as Ibiza’s longest beach, you most probably here will find the privacy you are searching for.
Cala Conta – Stunning views make this a very popular beach on the island.
Cala Jondal – The perfect choice if you are searching for a relaxed atmosphere.
Talamanca – Golden sand and a lot of waterfront restaurants, what more do you want from a beach day?!
Las Salinas – Are you searching for a bohemian vibe in Ibiza? That’s the place!
Benirrás – Known for its stunning sunset, this is also a beach with a bohemian style.
How many days do you need in Ibiza:
There are a lot of beaches in Ibiza, but to visit the best ones you will need at least 5-7 days in Ibiza.
If you want to take some rest and relax then you must stay in Ibiza for at least 7-10 days.
For first-time visitors, I would suggest 1 week as the perfect amount of time to visit the island and travel to Ibiza.
Tip: Add one day extra for a day trip to Formentera. This small island is a must if you are staying in Ibiza. The gorgeous beaches with white/golden sand and turquoise water makes Formentera a lovely destination for families with children, and more quieter than Ibiza. Family-friendly beaches:
Cala Bassa – The calm water makes this beach perfect for children to swim.
Cala Jondal – The perfect choice if you are searching for a relaxed atmosphere.
Es Figueral – The calm water and soft sand make this perfect for all ages.
Portinatx – The variety of water sports activities for children and adults.
Cala d’Hort – Located near the iconic Es Vedra rock. A wonderful beach for children to play around with sand and the rocks in the water.
Cala Llonga – A wild beach with calm waters, perfect for families with children.
Aguas Blancas – This is the perfect place if you are searching for a calming beach.
Particular beaches:
Es Cavallet – A beach with a nudist area and a perfect spot for windsurfing.
Cala Gracio – A peaceful beach with calm waters and a rocky coastline.
Cala Xarraca – Perfect beach for snorkeling.
PRO TIP: The best sunset spot in Ibiza is Es Vedrà Viewpoint. You can do a beach day in Cala d’Hort, which is near Es Vedra and has a wonderful view, and then climb for the sunset viewpoint. Go there a bit early since it becomes very crowded, and you will find all the best spots busy. Don’t miss this viewpoint when traveling to Ibiza.
