Naples in 3 days – Ultimate Itinerary

I spent three days in Naples my first time there. This southern Italian city is one of the most authentic and beautiful cities in Italy, and it is really worth visiting once in your life, trust me, you wont’t want it to be the last time. So I highly suggest not miss it and I am listening to this blog post about all the reasons why I love Naples so much and how to get the best out of these 3 days.

Day 1

1. Piazza Plebiscito

Known as one of the most Instagrammable places in Naples, it will be, definitely the first stop. It is the main square in Naples situated in the middle of the city center.

The best time of the day to visit Piazza Plebiscito, to take the perfect Instagram picture with nobody around, is during the sunrise.

According to legends, you can’t cross Piazza del Plebiscito with your eyes closed. So you have to challenge yourself, close your eyes, wear a blindfold, and figure out if this legend is true.

Explore all day Naples, but make sure to save some time and come back here when the lights are down, Piazza Plebiscito is fantastic during the sunset and at night.

2. Palazzo Reale

Whether or not you are passionate about history, you cannot miss visiting Naples’ Royal Palace which is a great place to learn all about the city’s royal history. You’ll be immersed in the luxury in which they lived, almost exactly preserved as it was at the time, and by the  complicated history of the Naples’ Royal Palace.

3. Galleria Umberto I

Galleria Umberto is a public shopping gallery in Naples, built in 1890.

It is located near to Piazza Plebiscito, only 5 minutes away walking distance. One of the best things about Galleria Umberto I is that nearby are A LOT of pastries and you can’t live without trying a sfogliatella (One of the most famous desserts in Naples).

4. Pizzeria Da Michele

One thing that Naples is famous for, is, without any doubt, pizza. Known for the best pizzas in the world you can’t skip without eating (at least) one pizza every day of your stay.
The fact is that around are many wonderful places to try the typical Neapolitan pizza, and the most famous one is Pizzeria da Michele.

It was my first time in Pizzeria da Michele, and I COULDN’T wait to come back. the pizza was the absolute best I’ve ever eaten. If you remember, this was the place Julia Roberts ate her pizza in the movie Eat Pray Love while renouncing any guilt she was feeling about her growing “muffin top”. And she was sooo right.

5. Piazza del Gesù Nuovo

Located on the edge of the city, this is one of the most important squares in Naples. Nearby you can find two of the more important churches of the city: Chiesa del Gesú and Santa Chiara Church. Also in the middle of the church is the famous statue of the Mary Immaculate.

You can easily reach it with the metro, Toledo stop.

6. The most beautiful metro station in Europe – Toledo

Located in via Toledo, this is one of the stops of Metro Line 1 in Naples. This is said to be the most beautiful metro station in Europe because of its stunning colors and design.

Via Toledo is also one of the most famous shopping streets in Naples so you can’t skip a visit to this station.
The best time to visit is about 10:00 PM when the metro is almost empty and you can take the perfect picture in about 15 minutes

7. Castel Sant’Elmo

To close the day with a stunning viewpoint, go visit this medieval fortes located above Naples. You can enjoy the view and relax after a long day exploring the city.

Honestly, you can’t miss such a beautiful view. “Salita della pedamentina.” they are stairs that descend from Castel Sant’Elmo to Via Toledo.

Day 2

1. Castel dell Ovo

From a royal residence to a prison, this castle has so much to offer. This castle is not only one of the most beautiful spots in Naples and so Instagrammable but also reach in history and you will love to explore it all.
Is not very usual to visit a castle surrounded by the sea, isn’t it?

2. Castel Nuovo

It’s called Castel Nuovo or New Castle only because this is a few hundred years newer than Castel dell’Ovo. By visiting this castle you can see the Cappella Palatina, the Triumphal Arch, the Roman ruins, the Hall of Barons, and much more.

3. Naples Cathedral

Located on Via Duomo, this is the main church of Naples.
In your itinerary of what to do in Naples in 3 days, you can’t miss visiting the famous Cathedral, one of the most important monuments in Naples.
The Cathedral of Napoli is close to Spaccanapoli. This famous street cut in two half the city.

The Cathedral is accessible by metro: Museo stop. It has also a regular bus service.

4. Pizza time again

This time I would highly suggest trying fried Pizza (pizza fritta).
One of the best places to try it is Gina Sorbillo. (No, if you have tried it before in Milan, trust me, it has nothing to do with that, is way more delicious).
The worst thing is the very long queues and sometimes you have to wait for more than one hour. (As for comparison, Pizzeria da Michele has more waiting time)

Location: Via dei Tribunali, 32

5. Palazzo Spagnolo

Near the city center, built in late-Baroque style, this palace has all the tourist attention and is worth a visit.
Don’t forget that this palace is habitable and is forbidden to climb the stairs.

6. Quartieri Spagnoli and Maradona Murales

Have you seen the Narcos Series or are you a fan of Maradona?
If the answer is yes to one of these questions, you have to visit this charming neighborhood in Naples.

7. Sanmartino Viewpoint

This one is my other favorite view Point in Naples. So to enjoy the best sunset don’t miss this viewpoint.

Day 3

You can’t say you have been to Campagna without visiting one of the most beautiful seaside:
Capri, Ischia or Amalfi Cost.

So on my third day in Naples made a day trip to Positano and here you can learn all the details.
